Installing Jira on Ubuntu server

Hey,

Couple a days ago I tried to install Jira. There are few important things that you need to remember behind the installation guide.

  • Jira works by default with port 8080, but you can change it
  • Port 8080 must be opened in your router for remote connections (Port forwarding)
  • Validate that Jira is listening on the right port by using:
netstat -and | grep 8080

After finishing installation you will be able to remote connect JIRA by using the following URL:

http://IP:8080

Few more issues:

  • When using SSL connection for JIRA Mail Server you will have to use JNDI. Please see here.
  • When you are seeing 404 page with the following message: "description The requested resource () is not available. smtp" you have to check 2 things:
  1. Remove lock file from JIRA_INSTALLED_PATH/.jira-home.lock (rm -rf .jira-home.lock)
  2. Remove DB lock, filename:ย jiradb.lck which you may find inย JIRA_HOME/database/jiradb.lckย
  3. Before you stop & start JIRA server I will advice to check your process (ps -f) seems that JIRA log keep working after you stop JIRA.

starting JIRA:

JIRA_HOME/bin/start-jira.sh

stoping JIRA:

JIRA_HOME/bin/stop-jira.sh

I will probably add more information in the future, when I will meet new problems that I think you should know about.

If you'll have any suggestion or problems you are welcome to write your comments or try #atlassian on irc.freenode.org.
